Capgemini Grades, Salary and Promotions
What A4, B1 and C1 mean at Capgemini, employee-reported pay by designation from AmbitionBox, and what employees say about appraisals and promotions.
on this page§ 10

If you have just joined Capgemini, or you are a few years in and trying to work out what "B1" or "C2" means for your career, the confusion is not just you. Capgemini does not publish an official designation chart for India that PapersAdda could find, so almost everything freshers repeat about the ladder comes from forum threads and salary trackers. This guide pulls that together, checks it against what Capgemini has published, and flags where the picture is employee-reported rather than confirmed.
Capgemini's Grade Ladder: What Employees Describe
The grade codes come from two forum threads, both checked on 28 September 2026. In a Glassdoor Community thread posted about two years ago, the question itself gave "C1 - Senior Consultant" as its example. A reply from a user tagged to Capgemini listed "C2- Manager , D1-Senior Manager , D2- Program Manager", and a reply from a user tagged to another company listed "A4 Analyst B1 Associate Consultant B2 Consultant". A Fishbowl reply posted about three years ago says: "B2 is Consultant. People having 3+ YoE Just Above B1 (Associate Consultant) and A grades(Freshers) C grades are mostly managers."
| Grade | Designation, as employees describe it | What the posts add |
|---|---|---|
| A4 | Analyst | A grades are the fresher band |
| B1 | Associate Consultant | Just below B2 |
| B2 | Consultant | People with 3+ years of experience |
| C1 | Senior Consultant | Given as the example in the Glassdoor question |
| C2 | Manager | C grades are "mostly managers" |
| D1 | Senior Manager | Listed above C2 |
| D2 | Program Manager | Listed above D1 |
Senior Analyst is a real Capgemini title with its own AmbitionBox pay page, but none of these posts gives it a grade code, so this page does not assign one. None of this is an official Capgemini chart. It is a handful of forum posts that agree with each other, and the codes may differ by business unit and country.
One Code, Two Meanings: Why "A4" Does Not Always Mean the Same Thing
If you compare notes with colleagues abroad, watch the letters. Capgemini UK's software engineering team publishes a grade ladder on its GitHub pages, in a repository titled "Capgemini UK Software Engineering Grade Ladder". That ladder runs from A1 to A9, and every level is a software engineering tier: A4 is "Software Engineer Level 4" and A5 is "Software Engineer Level 5". It describes that UK team's engineers, not the India business-track grades above.
The ladder's own introduction says its authors wanted it to "not be written specific to Capgemini (because many of the consumers will not know our internal jargon / processes)" and to "be generic (it won't be tied to technologies, so it's less likely to go out of date)". So a UK engineer's A4 and an India Analyst's A4 are different things that share a label.
A career-coaching site, Hacking the Case Interview, makes a related point about the business side: "The same letter can mean different things in different parts of the business, so a C2 might be a senior consultant inside Capgemini Invent and a manager elsewhere in the Group." PapersAdda could not confirm that example from a second source, but the practical conclusion holds either way: if a colleague or a forum post quotes you a grade, confirm the business line and country it applies to, and check your own offer letter or HR system.
What Capgemini Pays at Each Level
The table uses AmbitionBox's salary page for each Capgemini designation, all checked on 28 September 2026. These are employee self-reported ranges, not a Capgemini pay scale, and AmbitionBox states the experience range each one covers.
| Designation | Reported pay (LPA) | Experience range | Sample size, update date |
|---|---|---|---|
| Analyst | 4.1 to 4.5 | Fresher to 3 years | 10,400 salaries, updated 23 Sep 2026 |
| Senior Analyst | 4.8 to 5.3 | 1 to 5 years | 23,300 salaries, updated 24 Sep 2026 |
| Associate Consultant | 6.8 to 7.5 | 2 to 5 years | 42,400 salaries, updated 22 Sep 2026 |
| Consultant | 11.6 to 12.9 | 2 to 8 years | 57,600 salaries, updated 22 Sep 2026 |
| Senior Consultant | 16.8 to 18.5 | 4 to 12 years | 48,700 salaries, updated 23 Sep 2026 |
| Manager | 23.1 to 25.5 | 6 to 17 years | 20,700 salaries, updated 24 Sep 2026 |
The biggest step in the table is from Associate Consultant to Consultant, roughly 70 percent at the midpoints of the two ranges, larger than any other step. The experience ranges also overlap: both the Associate Consultant and Consultant pages include people with 2 years of experience, so two people with the same years can report very different pay depending on their designation. The Capgemini salary and hike guide covers how to read the grade and band on your own offer letter.
None of these AmbitionBox figures is an official Capgemini number, and Capgemini has not published a fresher CTC table PapersAdda could verify. Treat the table as a reference point for planning, not a guarantee.
How the Appraisal Cycle Runs, as Employees Describe It
Capgemini does not publish its appraisal calendar on any page PapersAdda could find, so the clearest account comes from a forum. In a Fishbowl thread posted about three years ago (checked 28 September 2026), a fresher wrote, "I have completed my first appraisal cycle as a fresher (which we get after 18 months)," and asked when they would be eligible for promotion. A reply from a user tagged to Capgemini explained: "The normal appraisal cycle is Calendar year means January to December. Annual assessment results at the end of March and revised salary will be effective from 1st April. Also you get annual variable pay with March salary."
Read together, the performance year runs January to December, results come around the end of March, revised pay takes effect from 1 April, and annual variable pay comes with the March salary. The poster's 18 months is when their first appraisal came, not a promotion, and nobody in the thread answered the promotion question. This is one thread, so check your own cycle with HR, since it can depend on your joining month and business unit.
What Actually Helps, and What Stalls, a Promotion
Capgemini does not publish a promotion checklist, so the evidence here is employee reviews and Capgemini's replies to them. On Glassdoor's Capgemini reviews page, checked on 28 September 2026, sentiment is mixed. A current Senior Associate in Noida lists "Transparent promotion process, supportive leadership, career growth opportunities, good work culture" among the pros. A Senior Consultant in Chicago cites "little opportunity for merit based promotion." An Informatica ETL developer in Bangalore writes that "promotions opportunities are limited and one major drawback when people are in bench", meaning without an active client project, and Capgemini's reply to that review says: "We also acknowledge your concerns regarding limited promotion opportunities and the treatment of employees on the bench."
The practical read: staying on an active project is the one factor that shows up in both the complaints and Capgemini's own reply. Two reviews on the same page list training programmes and certifications as a plus, but none ties a certification to a promotion rule, so this guide does not invent one. At company level, Capgemini's full-year 2025 results report 97.2 average completed learning hours per employee, against its own objective of at least 70, though Capgemini has not said how that metric feeds individual promotion decisions.
If You Are at Level X, Here Is Your Realistic Next Move
- Analyst (A4): your first formal appraisal is the first real data point, and one fresher on Fishbowl says theirs came after 18 months. Ask your manager in writing what a strong rating needs on your project.
- Senior Analyst or Associate Consultant (B1): AmbitionBox's Associate Consultant range starts at 2 years of experience, and the one forum post that dates any grade puts B2, Consultant, at 3+ years. Treat that as one person's description, not a rule.
- Consultant (B2) and above: the largest reported pay step on AmbitionBox is from Associate Consultant to Consultant, and the forum posts say C grades are mostly managers. Staying staffed on active work is the one factor the reviews and Capgemini's reply agree on.
- At any level: confirm your eligibility and timeline with your manager or HR rather than a forum post, including the ones quoted here.
Capgemini's Scale After the WNS Deal
Capgemini's full-year 2025 results, published on 13 February 2026, put group headcount at 423,400 at the end of December 2025, up 82,300 or 24% year on year, "primarily reflecting the integration of WNS team members". Offshore headcount rose to 279,200, 66% of the total. The same release announced a restructuring programme Capgemini calls Fit-for-growth, with cumulative restructuring costs of about 700 million euros over the next two years. Capgemini has not said whether or how this affects promotions, so this page draws no conclusion for individual careers.
WHAT PAPERSADDA THINKS
The most useful thing we found is also the least discussed: the grade letters people argue about in placement groups are not universal. Capgemini UK's engineers use A1 to A9 for a different ladder, and even the India codes rest on a handful of forum posts. Before you compare your grade with a friend's, or panic about a number someone quoted, confirm which ladder and business unit it belongs to. On pay and timing, treat every figure here as a starting point for a conversation with your manager or HR. The one pattern that held across the reviews and Capgemini's own reply is that staying staffed on active work matters for your next promotion.

Frequently Asked Questions
What does the A4 grade mean at Capgemini?
In employee posts on Glassdoor's community forum and Fishbowl, A4 is described as the Analyst grade, and A grades as the fresher band. That is employee-reported, not an official Capgemini chart; AmbitionBox has a separate Capgemini Analyst pay page, so the title is in use. Capgemini UK's software engineering ladder uses A4 for something else, Software Engineer Level 4.
What is the Capgemini salary for a Consultant (B2 grade)?
AmbitionBox's Consultant salary page for Capgemini, based on 57,600 reported salaries and updated 22 September 2026, puts the range at about 11.6 to 12.9 lakh a year for employees with 2 to 8 years of experience. This is employee-reported, not a company figure, so confirm your own band on your appraisal letter.
How long does it take to move from Analyst to Senior Analyst at Capgemini?
PapersAdda found no Capgemini timeline. AmbitionBox's Analyst page covers people from fresher to 3 years of experience and its Senior Analyst page 1 to 5 years; those are the experience ranges of people reporting pay, not promotion dates. One fresher on Fishbowl says their first appraisal came after 18 months.
When does the Capgemini appraisal cycle run?
In a Fishbowl thread about three years old, a user tagged to Capgemini described a January to December appraisal year: annual assessment results at the end of March, revised salary effective from 1 April, and annual variable pay with the March salary. This is one employee's account, not a published Capgemini policy.
Does being on the bench hurt your chances of a Capgemini promotion?
One Glassdoor review from Bangalore says promotion opportunities are limited for people on the bench, meaning without an active project, and Capgemini's reply acknowledged its concerns regarding limited promotion opportunities and the treatment of employees on the bench rather than disputing them. Treat staying staffed as something to manage actively.
Is Capgemini's grade ladder the same across the whole company?
No. Capgemini UK's software engineering team publishes an A1 to A9 ladder in which every level is a software engineer tier, while employees in India describe a business-track ladder (Analyst, Associate Consultant, Consultant, Manager) that uses some of the same letters for different roles. Always confirm which ladder your own offer letter or HR system uses.
What is Capgemini's Fit-for-growth programme?
It is Capgemini's name for a restructuring programme announced with its full-year 2025 results on 13 February 2026, with cumulative restructuring costs of about 700 million euros over the next two years. Capgemini has not stated any effect on promotions, so treat claims about one as unconfirmed.
