What Is HCL TechBee?

HCL TechBee is HCL Technologies' flagship early-career hiring programme designed for students who passed Class 12 (10+2) in 2025 or 2026. Selected candidates complete 12 months of training (6 to 9 months classroom, 3 to 6 months on-the-job) and then start as full-time HCLTech employees, with an option to pursue higher education through partner universities such as BITS Pilani.

The programme is distinct from campus placements in one critical way: you compete directly after Class 12, not after graduation. It is a paid program, though: the official Job Program page lists a fee of INR 1.40 lakh for IT Services and ₹51,000 for Business Process Operations.

HCL TechBee 2026 Exam Pattern

HCLTech's official Job Program page lists four selection steps: Registration, HCL CAT (a basic career aptitude test of quantitative and logical reasoning), HR Interview and Essay grading, and Versant (a language test including spoken English). HCLTech does not publish section counts, timing or marking, so the test breakdown below is candidate-reported and may differ in your cycle.

Stage 1: Online Aptitude Test

SectionQuestionsTime (approx.)Marks
Quantitative Ability2025 min20
Logical Reasoning2025 min20
Verbal Ability / English1515 min15
Basic Computer / IT Awareness1010 min10
Total65~75 min65

No sectional cut-offs have been officially declared, but overall cut-off is typically 60-65% of total marks (based on candidate reports from 2023–2025 drives).

Negative marking: −0.25 per wrong answer in the aptitude sections. The IT Awareness section carries no negative marking in most reported versions.

Stage 2: HR Interview and Essay Grading

The official page describes a face-to-face interaction with the HCLTech selection committee, along with essay grading. Candidates report questions on Class 12 Maths concepts, basic logic and why they want a tech career. No advanced coding is expected.

Stage 3: Versant

A language skills test, including spoken English, per the official page. Give it real practice time: read aloud and answer short spoken prompts.

The table below is based on aggregated candidate reports from coaching forums, LinkedIn posts, and placement cell disclosures. These are estimated ranges, not official figures.

YearOverall Cutoff (out of 65)Approx. %Note
202236–3855–58%Candidate-reported range
202338–4158–63%Candidate-reported range
202440–4361–66%Candidate-reported range
202541–4463–67%Slight upward shift in competitive cities
2026 (projected)42–4664–70%Higher intake but larger applicant pool

HCL publishes no category-wise marks relaxation for TechBee. It is a private hiring programme, not a government recruitment, so any OBC/SC/ST cutoff adjustment quoted elsewhere is unverified; treat the single overall cutoff as the only bar.

Trend: Cutoffs have risen steadily at roughly 1–2 marks per year as programme awareness increases. Candidates from metro cities (Delhi, Bengaluru, Chennai) tend to face stiffer competition than those from Tier-2 cities in the same drive. Target 48+ out of 65 to be safe in 2026.

HCL TechBee 2026 Salary & Compensation

This is the most searched data point, and also the most misreported. These are the figures HCLTech states on its official TechBee pages (checked 15 September 2026):

ComponentOfficial figureNotes
Stipend₹10,000 per monthPaid during on-the-job training (internship), for out-of-pocket expenses
Starting salary, IT Services₹2.50 lakh per annumAfter successful completion of training
Starting salary, Digital Process Support₹2.20 lakh per annumAfter successful completion of training
Program fee, IT ServicesINR 1.40 lakhListed on the Job Program page
Program fee, Business Process Operations₹51,000Listed on the Job Program page

The official page adds that CTC should be in line with the minimum wages of the state. HCLTech does not publish variable pay, in-hand salary or post-appraisal bands for TechBee hires, so treat any such figure elsewhere as an estimate. An earlier version of this page listed a 3-year bond, a free degree and a ₹4.5-6 LPA regularisation band. None of these appear on the official site, so we removed them. For the full fee and agreement picture, read our HCL TechBee 2026 guide.

Question-Frequency Analysis: What Appears Most in TechBee Papers

Based on analysis of 18 reported paper patterns from 2022–2025 drives (estimated, based on candidate disclosures):

TopicFrequency in Quant SectionFrequency in Reasoning Section
Percentages & Profit-Loss~35% of quant questions,
Time-Speed-Distance~20%,
Simple & Compound Interest~15%,
Number Series,~25%
Blood Relations,~15%
Coding-Decoding,~20%
Syllogisms,~15%
Reading Comprehension, (Verbal),
Sentence Correction, (Verbal),

Percentages dominate the Quant section. If you solve 50 percentage problems before the exam, you've prepared for roughly one-third of all quant questions. Practice percentage problems with shortcuts for placement exams before anything else.

Step-by-Step Preparation Strategy for HCL TechBee 2026

Follow this 6-week plan if your exam is 45 days away.

Week 1–2: Quant Foundation Focus entirely on percentages, profit-loss, SI/CI, and time-speed-distance. These four topics cover ~70% of the Quant section. Use Class 11 NCERT Maths as the base. Solve 30 problems per day with timers, aim for under 75 seconds per question.

Week 3: Reasoning Blitz Cover number series, coding-decoding, blood relations, and seating arrangements. The TechBee reasoning section is not CAT-level, it mirrors SSC CGL Tier-1 difficulty. Logical reasoning questions for placement drives at that difficulty level are the right benchmark.

Week 4: Verbal Ability Focus on reading comprehension (one passage, 3–4 questions) and sentence correction. Vocabulary is minimal, grammar and comprehension dominate. Read one editorial per day from any English newspaper.

Week 5: IT Awareness + Mock Tests Study: generations of computers, OS basics (Windows, Linux commands), networking basics (IP, DNS, HTTP), MS Office shortcuts, database terms (rows/columns, primary key). Then take 3 full-length mocks in exam conditions.

Week 6: Revision + Error Analysis Go through every wrong answer from your mocks. Most TechBee failures are in Quant due to calculation errors, not concept gaps. Practice mental math for percentages and fractions daily.

HCL TechBee 2026 Recruitment Timeline

HCLTech does not publish a fixed annual calendar for TechBee on the official pages we checked (15 September 2026). Older guides quote typical months for registration, tests and joining; treat those as past patterns, not dates.

Common Mistakes TechBee Aspirants Make

1. Treating it like a regular job exam. TechBee is designed for 17–19 year olds. The Quant section tests Class 9–10 Maths, not B.Tech-level topics. Over-preparing for advanced topics wastes time; under-preparing basics fails you.

2. Ignoring the IT Awareness section. Most candidates skip this section assuming it's trivial. It carries 10 marks with no negative marking, a free 10 marks if you spend 2 days on it.

3. Not reading the fee and agreement terms before signing. HCLTech's official FAQ describes a service agreement of 2 years after course completion for employees who opt for UG or PG through a partner university, and the program fee is due on the official timelines. Read the agreement and fee terms before you sign or pay.

4. Applying to the wrong profile. TechBee has multiple tracks (IT services, BPO-adjacent roles). Read the JD carefully, some tracks are purely voice/support with minimal tech learning. The engineering track is what most aspirants want.

5. Missing the application window. HCL does not send reminders after initial registration. Miss the test date and you're out for that cycle. Set calendar alerts the day you apply.

FAQs

Q: Can I apply for HCL TechBee after Class 12 from any stream?

You must have completed Class 12 with Mathematics as a compulsory subject. Commerce students with Maths are eligible. Pure Arts stream students without Maths are generally not eligible for the technical track, though eligibility criteria should be verified on the official portal each cycle.

Q: Is there a minimum percentage for HCL TechBee 2026?

The official eligibility FAQ sets a board-wise Class 12 minimum: 75% for Andhra Pradesh, NIOS, Tamil Nadu and Telangana, 70% for CBSE, ISC, Orissa and Karnataka, and 65% or 60% for the other listed boards. IT roles also need Mathematics or Business Mathematics with at least 60%.

Q: What happens if I fail the TechBee aptitude test?

You can re-apply in the next drive cycle. There is no lifetime ban on attempts. However, HCL does not officially confirm the cooling-off period, many candidates report applying in back-to-back cycles without issues.

Q: Is the B.Tech degree from BITS Pilani recognised by AICTE and UGC?

BITS Pilani is a deemed university and its degrees are widely recognised. HCLTech's Higher Education page lists BITS Pilani among TechBee's partners, alongside Shiv Nadar IoE, IIIT Kottayam, IIM Sirmaur, IIT Guwahati, Amity University Online, SASTRA University and PES University. Verify the current partner and programme in your own communication.

Q: What is the difference between HCL TechBee and HCL's regular fresher hiring?

TechBee targets Class 12 pass-outs: a paid 12-month program, then a starting salary of ₹2.20-2.50 lakh per annum, with optional higher education through partner universities. Regular HCL fresher hiring (see placement papers here) targets graduates.

Q: Does HCL TechBee conduct group discussions?

No GD has been reported in the TechBee process as of 2025. HCLTech's official Job Program page lists four steps: Registration, HCL CAT, HR Interview and Essay grading, and Versant.

Q: What cities have HCL TechBee test centres in 2026?

HCLTech does not publish a test-centre city list on the official TechBee pages we checked (15 September 2026). Use the details in your own registration communication, and ignore city lists on third-party sites.
